Campus Updates and Information About Quad Encampment

On Monday, May 6, a group named ��TV Popular University for the Liberation of Palestine, or UCD PULP, began erecting tents on the Quad, consistent with actions taken on campuses across the country. This page contains all of the university statements and information regarding the university's response to the encampment and will be updated periodically.

On Monday, May 13, ��TV leaders met with students representing the encampment, known as PULP (Popular University for the Liberation of Palestine), on the Memorial Union Quad. Campus leaders expressed appreciation for the students’ efforts to keep the encampment safe and peaceful and listened to the students’ concerns about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

��TV leaders said the conversation was productive and that they will continue to engage with the students about issues they are raising.

A Fallen Aggie, 20 Years On

��TV will honor its 136 Gold Star Aggies — students and alumni who gave their lives in military service to the United States — at the university’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 23. The event, on the Memorial Union’s North Courtyard, will feature campus and guest speakers, a rendition of the national anthem and a reading of all 136 names featured in the Golden Memory Book.

William Garrity Named University Librarian and Vice Provost of Digital Scholarship

William Garrity, deputy university librarian and the library’s chief operating officer, has been selected as the next university librarian and vice provost of digital scholarship for ��TV. Garrity, who has served as interim university librarian since July 2023, will officially start on May 15.

��TV Coffee Center Opens

The Coffee Center at the University of California, Davis, officially opened Friday, May 3. The Coffee Center is a center of excellence in the ��TV College of Engineering and the first academic research and teaching facility in the U.S. entirely dedicated to the study of coffee.

Plant Researchers and Molecular Biologist Elected to National Academy of Sciences

Three professors from the University of California, Davis, have been elected as members of the National Academy of Sciences. They are among 120 new members and 24 international members announced by the academy April 30.

Members are elected in recognition of their contributions to original research. Membership in the academy is considered one of the highest honors a scientist can achieve.

Celebrating Our Diversity Champions

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion recently honored a number of students, faculty and staff for helping to bring the Principles of Community to life and make the university a more inclusive place.

The recipients of the Diversity and Principles of Community Awards, Disability Awareness Awards, Calvin Handy Leadership Award and Chancellor's Achievement Awards for Diversity and Community were honored in two separate events last month.

Renetta Tull, vice chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, congratulated the winners and offered appreciation for their work.
